From March 1st to 3rd, 2020, the first annual Living Deltas Project (GCRF Living Deltas) was held in Kolkata, India. Attending the Workshop were over 50 scientists from over 30 member organizations implementing the Project Components. Mr. Nick Low, UK Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, India (British Deputy High Commission) and Mr. Shri Prabhat Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary of Department of Environment of West Bengal Government, India came to attend and speak at the Conference
The purpose of the Conference is to have 6 Project Components presented the research results after one year of implementation. At the same time, the Components conducted a general discussion to get advice on academic-related issues, as Component 2 consulted the household interview questionnaire set in the study on Risks (natural, social, …); Component 4 consults on the “Critical Points of the Social and Ecological System”; Component 5 consults on issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the Conference, the subcommittees were arranged quite flexibly based on each specific topic. At the end of the discussions, the components will develop an action plan from March 2020 to March 2021. This activity plan not only aims to implement the activities of its component, but also supports and connects with other components to ensure the harmonious movement, cost savings and bring the greatest efficiency for the Project
After 5 days of planned activities, the first Annual Conference of the Project in 2020 ended successfully. It is expected that the 2021 Annual Conference will be held at An Giang University in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam.
